Safe With Class

Safe with Class was a two year project of the Virginia: Hampton Roads Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners during 2010 to 2012 that promoted seat belt use and the avoidance of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle among the students of two universities in the Hampton Roads region, Hampton University and Norfolk State University. As the culmination of fifteen years of occupant protection safety programs, Safe with Class introduced nursing students at these two universities to the field of injury prevention.  The students received instruction in injury prevention, specifically alcohol related motor vehicle related injuries and seat belt use.  The students participated in problem evaluation, program design and implementation and program evaluation to meet specific goals.  The project was funded through traffic safety grants from the Department of Motor Vehicles and other sources.
