Meet the Executive Board:
JoAnn Pun, President
Kathleen Sweeney, President Elect
Cara-Lee Stephenson, Past President
My undergraduate degree if from the University of Richmond where I studied biology. I then attended MGH Institute of Health Professions in Charlestown, MA where I received my RN and MSN specializing in pediatrics. After graduating I moved from Massachusetts to San Diego with my now husband. My first position as a PNP was at Jacobson Pediatrics where I worked in primary care pediatrics for 7.5 years. I loved the bonds I made with my patients and their families over the years. Looking for a new challenge, I started at Children's Specialties of San Diego Neurosurgery group in February 2014. I help our patients understand their diagnosis, prepare for surgery and provide post op and follow up care. I am married and have two beautiful girls. Whenever I am lucky enough to have free time, I like to hike Cowles Mountain, bake, explore San Diego with my family.
Kristi Cullum, Secretary
I obtained my MSN and PNP from California State University, Long Beach in 2005. While there I had the pleasure of learning from some of the best pediatric nurse practitioners in San Diego and am grateful for everything they taught me. After graduating in 2005, I continued to work in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as an RN, and began a position as a clinical instructor for the undergraduate pediatric course at San Diego State University, School of Nursing. In 2009, I joined the team at Urgent Care working as an NP per diem, as I continued my instructor role, and reached out to the San Diego Chapter to become more involved. Working at Urgent Care was a tremendous Learning Experience and I was sorry to leave. In Fall 2011, I became a full-time student again, pursuing a PhD at the University of San Diego. My research interests are kids with diabetes, both types 1 and 2, and depression and social support within this population. NAPNAP has been my PNP connection throughout my various roles. I am honored to have served as San Diego NAPNAP President from 2012-2014. It is always a privilege to work with so many talented individuals who collaborate to ensure the success of our chapter and the profession in general!
