I am a newbie to posting on blogs and as one of the founders of our SIG, I am very eager to have our SIG be successful. I'm also very curious to know about the features of NAPNAP's website upgrade. Is anyone able to read this posting? Is anyone else in our SIG interested in using this blog to share our ideas and resources? Who is planning to go to the March 2015 annual NAPNAP conference? Hope to hear from you! Linda Lindeke, Minnesota PNP
Dear Colleagues, I know we all feel concern for the children exposed to the Ebola patient in Dallas, Texas. I am amazed that the target patients managed to enter the US without concern about his whereabouts. I understand he was not exactly forthcoming about his Ebola exposures in Liberia. I also am concerned that an ED provider sent home a patient from West Africa (maybe the provider needed a brush up on geography) with antibiotics for a viral illness that matches the description of Ebola. Containment is also an issue. The apartment manager hosed down the vomitus from the target patient. I do not know about any of you but when I hose down anything I ...
Did you know September is National Preparedness Month? How prepared are you personally or professionally for an emergency or disaster? How prepared are your patients/families? There are many ways to prepare, here are just a few. 1. Consider what are your emergency risks: hurricanes, earthquakes, bad weather (snow, heat, flooding, etc.)? Once you know your risks prepare for them. 2. Have an emergency evacuation plan for home and work. If you have to evacuate home or office where are the exits, where do you meet family/staff, how do you contact emergency services, family and friends? After you make a plan practice it. 3. Have a go-bag/emergency ...

I would really appreciate the chance to meet and network with other pediatric clinics in Western WA. Thank you for any information you may have.
One strategy that many of us have found useful in primary care is to start the HPV vaccine series with are patients at the beginning of summer and then give the second just before school starts - then the final injection can be given in the spring when early sports and camp physicals are completed. Does anyone else have any other strategies ? Do any of you work in practices that use text messaging as reminders ?

Each year United States, about 19,000 cancers caused by HPV occur in women and cervical cancer is the most common. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that rates of HPV are still lower than the immunization rates for other immunizations. There are approximately 40 types of genital HPV.
