The Houston Area Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) was created out of a strong desire for a dedicated support system for pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) in the Houston area. Before 1985, our chapter rotated its meetings among different cities annually, making it challenging for PNPs in Houston to establish a stable and consistent network.

In 1984, a group of 10 visionary PNPs in Houston recognized this need and were inspired to create a second, more localized chapter. These founding members worked tirelessly to lay the groundwork for what would become a vital resource for local PNPs. Their efforts led to the official establishment of the Houston Area Chapter of NAPNAP on March 15, 1985.

Since then, the chapter has become an essential hub for professional development, peer support, and advocacy for pediatric health in the region. Current members of the Houston Area Chapter are deeply grateful to the charter members, whose dedication and foresight not only made the chapter's creation possible but continue to inspire its growth and success. Today, the Houston Area Chapter remains committed to supporting and empowering PNPs, ensuring the highest standards of pediatric care.
