The chapter serves the geographic area of the southeastern Virginia known as Hampton Roads. The region includes nine cities and surrounding counties in Virginia from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach. The chapter also serves the northeastern counties and cities of North Carolina and the eastern shore of Virginia. There is a strong military presence in the region with seventeen bases from all services.

The members of the chapter come from many types of practices including primary care, specialty practice and university faculty.  The chapter was founded in 1996 with a charter membership of seventeen. The primary focus of the organization is to provide continuing education activities for the membership and pediatric health care providers of all disciplines. The chapter hosts dinner/continuing education meetings several times each year. This meeting is usually free to members. On rare occasions, there may be a nominal charge to offset the cost of the meal. The chapter hosts other continuing education events as needed and upon request.
