About Virginia Chapter of NAPNAP

To give a historical perspective to our newer members, there are currently two NAPNAP Chapters in the Commonwealth of Virginia: (1) the Virginia Chapter, which has two regional groups in the locations where the majority of the members reside - Richmond and Northern Virginia (NOVA) and (2) the Virginia Hampton Roads Chapter.  The two chapters each have its own slate of officers; the Virginia Chapter was started in 1991 and the Hampton Roads Chapter in 1995.

The two regional groups of the Virginia Chapter attempt to have a minimum of eight events per year.  These are typically dinner programs sponsored by pharmaceutical companies at no expense to our chapter or either a chapter sponsored CE event with a local speaker or with nonpromotional, educational support provided by a pharmaceutical group.  We avoid scheduling meetings during the summer or holidays due to family committments by our membership.

Currently the president and president elect of the Virginia Chapter split the responsibility for scheduling events between Richmond and Northern Virginia; therefore, it is necessary to have these two positions filled by members in these two regions.  The officers typically meet twice a year by Skype due to the diverse locations of our officers.

The meetings are a great place to network with other area PNPs/FNPs, to find out about job openings, and to learn about legislative efforts in the state.  Our chapter is continually looking for volunteers to become board members or be involved on a committee.  We also desire to expand to other areas beyond the two regional areas of Richmond and Northern Virginia but this would require an additional volunteer effort to coordinate any new areas.  We invite all interested members to contact the chapter at vanapnap@gmail.com.  If you reside closer to the Hampton Roads area, contact them at www.napnap-hr.org.  We need everyone’s support to make Virginia an active and vibrant community of nurse practitioners!
