PCNP Announces 2013 Election Results!
President:  Lorraine Bock, MSN, CRNP

Treasurer:  Julia Roussos, MSN, CRNP

Best wishes to Mary Verderame, Immediate Past President.  Mary served us well during her term and our association will be forever grateful for the passion and commitment she gave to PCNP!  Please read her farewell message below.

Welcome To Our New President!

It has been my privilege to represent Pennsylvania Nurse Practitioners as your President for the past 4 years.  Together we have accomplished a lot!   Since I began my tenure as president, we have successfully removed the requirement for a physician co-signature in long term care and gained the ability to sign school teacher physicals and death certificates—all wins we could not have accomplished without your support.  PCNP now offers on-line membership, a robust Career Center, strong regional groups with growing membership, and record conference attendance!  We have representation on numerous health related committees in Pennsylvania.  We are 8,000 strong and the fastest growing health profession in the United States.  We are proud of what we do and know that we positively impact the health of those we serve.  Studies show we provide evidence based, high quality, cost effective health care—and we continue to improve access to care every day in Pennsylvania!

Our “Putting Patients First” campaign is building and will help to move us towards “Full Practice Authority”.  I am proud of our successes, but know the hard work continues.  Unfortunately, rather than embrace us as partners in healthcare, organized medicine is resisting our efforts and will be opposing our legislation.  We need to emphasize keeping the patient at the center to drive sound policy decisions.

I know that with your support, our new PCNP President, Lorraine Bock, can carry this campaign forward for our patients and the NP profession.  Lorraine has been with PCNP since the 1990s serving in various leadership positions, most recently Vice President.  She has monitored the Board of Medicine and Nursing meetings and represented us on the Multi-State Reimbursement Alliance.  She has owned her own practice and is acutely aware of the challenges we face with insurers and health systems.  Lorraine has been to every PCNP Lobby day and is passionate about our profession.

Thank you all for being members and supporting our profession in Pennsylvania.   Please stay involved and help us spread the word about who we are and what we do.  Talk with your physician and NP colleagues, family, neighbors, patients, legislators and promote our campaign.   Together, we will achieve Full Practice Authority for Pennsylvania NPs.

Sincerely,

Mary Verderame MSN CRNP
Immediate Past President and A Proud member of PCNP

The PNCB and the Institute of Pediatric Nursing (IPN) Directors have teamed up to establish the IPN as a Standing Committee under the direction of PNCB. PNCB invites you to take a moment to read about how you can get involved as we plan to continue IPN's important work on strategic issues impacting the profession.

What is the IPN?

The Institute of Pediatric Nursing (IPN) was established by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) in 2009 to help create a unified network of pediatric organizations and hospitals.

Where is the focus?

  • The Mission is to promote a unified voice for pediatric nursing by providing collaborative opportunities for invested organizations.
  • The Vision is to leverage the collective expertise of pediatric nursing organizations to optimize the health and wellbeing of children and families.
  • Strategic Goals include:
    • Increase recognition of the IPN as a high impact mechanism for achieving a unified voice for pediatric nursing
    • Focus IPN collaboration on strategic issues of:
Care coordination, education of pediatric nursing professionals, knowledge development/dissemination and meaningful connections and resources

Who is involved?

PNCB now seeks enthusiastic, highly engaged candidates for a 7-member volunteer committee to facilitate successful implementation of the new strategic plan.

  • The committee will be chaired by PNCB Board member, Sarah Gutknecht, DNP, CPNP-AC/PC.
  • Term of service on the committee is three years.
  • All travel expenses for IPN-related work will be paid for by PNCB. The goal is for the committee to meet face-to-face 2-3 times a year, in addition to participating on regular conference calls.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas in pediatric nursing is required:
    • nursing research
    • community/primary care
    • hospital care
    • nursing education
    • advanced practice
  • Diversity of geographic location, practice setting, education and expertise will be represented in the final committee selection.

Deadline for submission of a resume and letter of interest is November 18, 2013 to Nicole Ritchey at nritchey@pncb.org. Please identify the area of expertise in the letter of interest. If you or someone within your organization is interested in applying or has questions, please contact Nicole.

Sincerely,
