The PHTS Foundation was established in 2010 as a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to raise and administer funds to advance the science and treatment of children while listed for and following heart transplantation. The PHTS Foundation supports the good works of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Study (PHTS).

The Pediatric Heart Transplant Study (PHTS) is dedicated to the advancement of the science and treatment of children during listing for and following heart transplantation. Although there are 500 transplants a year, any individual center may only do a few and even the largest centers rarely do more than 20. It is essential that each center's experience and information is collected together, analyzed and the lessons learned passed on to everyone to advance the knowledge and improve the treatment of children's transplants. The purposes of the PHTS are to establish and maintain an international database for heart transplantation, to use the database to encourage and stimulate basic and clinical research in the field of pediatric heart transplantation, and to promote new therapeutic strategies.

HorseAbility began in 1993 when founder Kathleen (Katie) Kilcommons McGowan lent her horse to a friend and physical therapist who used hippotherapy as a treatment modality for a child with cerebral palsy. When Katie saw the child’s physical and emotional connection with the animal and how her treatment accelerated through the use of the horse, Katie knew she had found her calling. Combining her education, her love of children, and her relationship with horses, she forged her own trail to start this wonderful organization.
HorseAbility converted from a sole proprietorship to a New York Not-for-Profit Corporation with IRS 501(c)(3) status in 2001. Since that time, HorseAbility has significantly increased its operations and expanded its organizational structure. We enjoy the distinction of being the only PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Centers on Long Island. To achieve Premier Accreditation from PATH the program must meet or exceed many industry standards.
In 2001 HorseAbility created Camp HorseAbility, a week long riding, learning, and fun-filled day camp for individuals with special needs.
HorseAbility is also responsible for The Long Island Horse Show Series for Riders with Disabilities (LIHSSRD), the first of its kind for riders with special needs. The finals are held at the renowned Hampton Classic Horse Show.

The mission of UCP of Long Island is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of persons with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. We remain committed to our goal of creating Life Without Limits for People With Disabilities. The Children’s Center is in the forefront of Early Intervention, Preschool, and School Age programming, serving approximately 100 infants and children with disabilities annually. The Center uses a MOVE (Mobility Opportunity Via Education) philosophy and boasts other specialty programs, and assistive technology services. The Children's Center continues to introduce new and innovative programs designed to meet the needs of Long Island's children and their families.
