Asthma is one of the leading causes of pediatric hospitalizations and emergency department visits in the U.S. We will explore evidence-based pediatric asthma management in acute and critical care settings through a real-world case scenario. This presentation will provide valuable insight into navigating the complexities of pediatric asthma emergencies, spanning initial emergency management through critical care.

This course is a recorded presentation for NAPNAP's 2025 National Conference. Studies have shown the benefits of SMART (single maintenance and rescue therapy) have improved asthma control, reduced exacerbations, decreased oral steroid use and improved quality of life for patients not controlled with conventional therapy. SMART likely improves long-term asthma control and reduces the potential for over reliance on SABAs (short acting beta agonists). In this presentation, SMART will be presented in the context of case studies, and we will review challenges to implementation of SMART. NAPNAP’s Asthma and Allergy SIG is pleased to support this activity.
